There's nothing quite like turning 6. Jake planned his 6 year old birthday party 4 months in advance. He changed plans a few times, shuffled around friends to invite, and had to decide between a bigger party and a smaller one. Eventually he settled on a bowling party with 6 friends and a pinata. (Pinatas are key. Any option that did not include a pinata were immediately eliminated.)
After meeting at our house and hitting down the pinata, the kids grabbed their bags full of sugar hopped in the cars and we went up to the Air Force Base to go bowling.
One of the things I love about bowling birthday parties on base is that they are really kid friendly. They have bumpers, six pound balls, and rolling devices to help kids who only know how to drop the ball.
They also provide dinner and party bags which make the experience even more fun.
We still brought the cake because Jake wanted a bowling cake. I did the best I could to shape the cakes into a bowling ball and pin, but I don't think anyone will be renaming me the "Ace of Cakes" anytime soon.
All in all, it was a great day. I am still amazed at how quickly time flies when you are having fun. We barely made it back to the house by 7:30pm. (We started the party at 4pm) I think Jake had fun, but now Joey has started planning his 5th birthday, and it's not until October. Good Grief. (Do I sound like Charlie Brown. He is my grandpa, so I guess it's in the blood.)
